Our recent addition to the shop is the namesake of a friend who loves a good handbag - especially one that holds her current reading. . .I asked Lizzie about her favorite reads and here's what she said:
Classics almost never disappoint. I'm nearly always either currently reading or have recently read a book that's considered a classic. I can never get enough of the Brontë sisters, but I think Charlotte Brontë is the best of the three. Everyone knows her for
Jane Eyre, but try
Villette if you already know and love
Jane Eyre.
Some of my favorite books are written by modern authors, but they feel like classics.
Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry is a book I will come back to again and again for the rest of my life. I also love Marilynne Robinson's loose trilogy of the books
Gilead, Home, and
Lila.
It's a good thing Agatha Christie was so prolific, because I almost constantly have one of her murder mysteries on hand. Try
The Murder of Roger Ackroyd to follow along as Hercule Poirot puts his "little gray cells" to use solving a mystery using an understanding of human nature rather than forensic evidence.
I also adore middle grade novels. I recently discovered the
Mysterious Benedict Society series and couldn't put it down until I finished the entire thing. These books are just plain fun, with quirky characters, plenty of mysteries, and page-turning plots.
Another recent favorite is
The Time in Between. The protagonist is a seamstress, which instantly sold me on this book, and it is set mostly before WWII, so the reader is immersed in the fashion and atmosphere of that period. Anne Bogel said it best: “If you like the sound of a sweeping historical tale of love, fashion, and espionage, set in the time between youth and maturity, war and peace, love and duty,”
The Time in Between will be a great choice for your next read!
Now here's a few details about our new Satchel:
We decided to flank the bottom three quarters of the bag in wax canvas for stability and durability. Wax canvas is easy to clean and just looks better over time. Feel free to set this satchel on the ground! There are four pockets - two inside, two outside. Pockets are large enough to carry a novel or your cellphone. You can choose to carry the satchel as a tote with two handles, or throw it over your shoulder with the adjustable strap. Close the bag with the sweet cinch top closure. Easy peasy.Of course the printed fabric is from our sister shop, Sara Parker Textiles. We chose combinations that we felt were fresh and complimentary.
We hope you like the Lizzie Satchel as much as we do!
