We've finally sourced an ethical and sustainable linen base cloth to feel good about! This fabric is a dream to print and just as lovely to sew up!
For this first collection of prints, we've chosen three of our favorite patterns: Meadowlark, Brown Thrasher, and Ginkgo.
We have two base cloth colors to choose from, plus a wild card! :)
This post features two of the patterns and the two base cloth colors we'll be launching on Friday this week!
We wanted to hear from you, our customers, how well the fabric handled and see how the prints draped as garments. We gave a few yards to three testers to let them play and this is what they made and said:
Lizzie:
1. What are you choosing to make with the fabric?
I made the Pilvi Jacket from the book Lotta Jansdotter Everyday Style.
This fabric was a dream to work with. It held its shape well as I was working with it, and it ironed up nice and crisp. I had to pick out a few seams on my garment, but the fabric didn’t stretch or fray much.
I washed the fabric before cutting out my pattern pieces, and it washed up beautifully. (Washed cold and tumbled dried low.) It came out of the dryer so soft! I couldn't stop handling the fabric because it feels so good against my skin. This is the softest, most comfortable linen I've worked with.
I specifically chose the Pilvi Jacket because I thought the print size would be just right for a cropped jacket.
I love this weight! I think it’s perfect for a jacket, pants/shorts, or a structured dress.
I want to make so many things with this fabric! I’d love to see it in:
2. How do you like sewing/ironing/working with the fabric?
3. Have you washed your finished garment/fabric? How did it do (fade, get softer, etc) ?
4. How do you feel about the print placement on your garment? Do you think the motifs are too big, too small?
5. What do you think of the weight? Does it work well for your project?
6. Are there any other garments/home items you'd like to make with this fabric?

Margaret:

I made a sundress

I washed the finished garment in warm water and hung it to dry. It kept its shape and bright color. It had the crisp but soft feel that I expect from linen. There was no shrinkage.
