It's movie night! Topsy-Turvy is one of my favorite films and it's loaded with beautiful textiles and interior shots. It is set in England in 1885 at the height of the Victorian decorative arts era, when wallpaper, dark interiors, brass highlights, and elaborate textiles were on point. At this time, the British were also fascinated with anything to do with Japanese art and culture (known as Japonism). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japonism

Topsy-Turvy depicts the inspiration, development and back-stage world of Gilbert and Sullivan's most well-known opera, The Mikado. What's great about the film is that it has fun with W.S. Gilbert's misinterpretation of Japanese culture, while still showing great affection for the opera itself. It's lighthearted and funny, and as an admirer of the Arts and Crafts movement, it's a treat to see the highly embellished set designs.
