This past weekend, my buddy Meg and I drove the country roads to Comer, GA to see our friends Steve and Mandy at their annual open house farm day.
3 Porch Farm is an organic flower farm in Comer, GA. They host an annual open house to raise funds for projects around the farm and to get folks in the spring spirit. There were thousands of plants for sale, like heirloom tomatoes and specialty eggplant and pepper varieties. Look at all these happy folks with their seedlings!
There were plenty of beautiful cut flowers to choose from, grown right out their front door on 2 acres of growing plot. I love seeing the flowers growing under the hoop houses. These ranunculus and poppies were breathtaking.
Mandy said they harvest twice daily to keep up with their flower production. And once the plant has finished, it's out of there and on to other varieties.
This beautiful Yellow Rose of Texas was growing just outside the new flower studio. We went on a nice walking tour around the property while they explained their battles with deer and showed off their ingenious way of using dreaded sweet gum trees to cultivate mushrooms, and their pretty strawberry rows, all nice and neat.
Steve and Mandy work hard to produce organically grown flowers, fruits and veggies. They sell their flowers and other farm delights weekly at the Athens and Atlanta farmers markets. The proceeds from this year's farm day will go toward finishing construction on Mandy's flower studio, Moonflower Designs.
They are a sweet, hard working team. I hope you will click on these links and check them out!
